A finely painted Chinese famille rose porcelain ginger jar, dating to the mid-20th century, circa 1950s–1970s.

The jar is decorated with a traditional Wulun Tu (五伦图), or “Five Relationships” design, featuring a colourful phoenix amongst flowering peonies, trees, rocks and birds.

The reverse is inscribed in black enamel with a poetic calligraphic inscription relating to the Five Relationships, accompanied by red seal marks.

Wood stand not included

The decoration is particularly detailed, with carefully painted plumage to the phoenix, layered famille rose enamels and finely rendered flowers, foliage and rockwork. A finely painted geometric border encircles the shoulder.

The recessed base bears an iron-red four-character Qianlong Nianzhi (乾隆年制) apocryphal seal mark.
