2276 Hey Jude/Revolution The Beatles Released: 26 Aug. 68
Early labels were missing both the matrix number and the publishing credit. This was quickly
corrected, and soon it was released with the "Capitol logo" b‐side. This first Apple single was
released in mono, as were most singles of the day. The industry moved toward stereo singles
being the norm within six months. The 2000 series was Capitol's main series of singles, to which the Beatles as a group were contracted. Apple's singles series started with 1800. All Apple records from this point on that did not have picture sleeves were issued in black Apple sleeves with a hole in the middle stating either "The
Beatles on Apple" or simply "Apple".

The song 'Hey Jude' was quite popular for the American record buying public, having been a huge hit in the fall of 1968. It stayed in the #1 spot on the Billboard singles chart for nine weeks, becoming not only the most successful American single for the group but even coming in as the biggest hit of the entire decade by any artist.

One of The Beatles’ most successful singles, 'Hey Jude / Revolution' was issued in the US on August 26, 1968. It was also the group’s first on their Apple label, and had the catalog number Apple 2276.

Hey Jude was a huge success in America, spending a total of 19 weeks on the charts from 14 September. The previous day it was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America.

The single topped the US Billboard chart for nine consecutive weeks, from 28 September to 23 November 1968. It was the longest time spent by a Beatles single at number one, and also set the record for the longest US number one single.

Additionally, as some US charts counted 'A' and 'B' sides separately, combining sales and airplay for their rankings, at one point Record World had Hey Jude at number one and Revolution at number two.
