Building with Holland Stone, c1900, Providence, Rhode Island

The front of this stereoview card features the text "Illustrated by the Windsor Gallery." printed vertically along both the left and right edges. Faintly visible along the bottom edge of the right image, handwritten in what appears to be a light ink or pencil, is "Building with Holland Stone." The reverse side of the card, which is a faded purplish-pink color, has two handwritten annotations: "40" in the top right corner and "views rare Providence, RI" in the bottom right quadrant.

The image itself depicts a bleak, wintry scene, likely during a construction or industrial operation. The ground is covered with snow, and several bare deciduous trees dominate the midground, including a prominent one with a utility pole integrated into its branches near the center-left. In the foreground and middle ground, several low-lying structures constructed from what appears to be "Holland Stone" are visible, possibly foundations or partially built industrial buildings. Piles of stone or debris are scattered around these structures. In the background, other buildings and rooftops can be discerned through the sparse winter foliage, suggesting a semi-urban or industrial edge of a town. The overall impression is one of early 20th-century urban development or industrial activity.

The handwritten notes on the reverse, "views rare Providence, RI," explicitly identify the depicted location as Providence, Rhode Island, and suggest the historical significance or scarcity of this particular view. Although the card has handwritten text, it is not a personal message in the typical postcard format with salutations and signatures; rather, it serves as an inventory or descriptive note.
