We are offering two original 2 1/4" x 3 1/4" photographs of the British airship R-100 arriving at the newly constructed airfield in Saint-Hubert, Quebec in August 1930. The airship was a part of a British government initiative called the Imperial Airship Scheme, intended for commercial air travel across the British Empire. Its transatlantic flight from Cardington, England to Montreal, Canada, was a significant event, drawing thousands of spectators upon its arrival. In these photos, the airship is shown connected to a mooring mast, which was specifically constructed for the visit. Following the tragic crash of its sister ship, the R-101 in October 1930, the entire airship scheme was ended, and the R-100 was subsequently scrapped. **CONDITION** - photos are Excellent; both show evidence from having been a scrapbook - some paper from the scrapbook page stuck to the backs of the photos.
