Item Description:

LUDWIG von DRAKE METAL LUNCHBOC AND METAL/GLASS THERMOS from Aladdin Industries 1962.  This very rare R-7 lunchkit features the intrepid Ludwig Von Drake starring in one of the early Disney forays into lunchbox lore.  Ludwig has always been one of my favorite characters – the lovable scientist with a wonderful sense of adventure and curiosity.  Another masterpiece by AL’s first artistic director Bob Burton - who was behind most of AL’s boxes in the 50’s including the first fully lithographed box of Hopalong Cassidy - who nailed his personality with the artwork and design of this set.  The box front and back panels show him doing his thing in Disneyland in Anaheim – checking out a worm on the Matterhorn and the Merry-Go-Round outside Fantasyland.  The side panels have him on adventures throughout the Park – and the Thermos dangerously catching butterflies in the Jungle Cruise.  Awesome! 

An investment grade example of this extremely rare and wonderful Disney collectible.


 

Condition: Box and thermos are complete and correct (including original wire thermos holder).  Box main front panel is clean and glossy throughout - with no blemishes to the raised areas so typical with these vintage embossed boxes.  The back main panel (which in a rare case is not embossed like the front) is also clean and glossy.  Rim panels are also clean and glossy as well.  Very light rim wear on front - unusual on these 60's vintage boxes with white rims - just a tad heavier on back.   No corner dents or dimples.  Metal hardware is nice and shiny.  Inside of box is clean overall with blemishes to the box - with no prior owner markings.  Box in overall Excellent Plus C-8.5 condition.  Thermos lithos are very clean and glossy throughout - with no dents or dimples or rattles when shaken - nice shiny bottom - in overall Near Mint C-9 condition.
