* Special Note:  The Star Stoneware Company, began in 1892, in Crooksville, Ohio. The company specialized in durable, utilitarian stoneware products like crocks, jugs, bowls, and casseroles, which were designed to be acid-proof and heat-resistant. In the early 1900s, Star Stoneware expanded by acquiring several other local potteries, making it one of the largest stoneware manufacturers in the United States at the time. The company used its signature "Star Fire Clay" mark, often with a star logo on its products, until it ceased operations in 1945.
