AN ACTIVE AND MUCH-LOVED AMERICAN FIRST LADY
ACCORDING TO A RESEARCH SURVEY among historians, Betty Ford is considered one of the best and most courageous of American First Ladies. As the wife of President Gerald Ford from 1974 to 1977 (and also the Second Lady for a year when her husband was Vice-President) she won high approval ratings largely for her active support of important social issues like women's rights and the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) and because of her willingness to speak out on controversial subjects such as abortion and drug addiction.
- And she was well-liked too because of her agreeable personality and sense of fun. On her last full day in the White House, she did what she had long wanted to: dance barefoot on the Cabinet Table. On a more serious issue, she became a leader in the fight against alcoholism after she admitted to her own struggles with addiction.
THIS REMARKABLE WOMAN'S STORY is told in this biography by journalist and author Lisa McCubbin. The book is in fine condition with clean, unmarked and fresh pages, a firm and square hardcover binding and an intact dust-jacket that we have protected with a Brodart plastic cover. There are numerous illustrations in color as well as black-and-white and, in addition to a general index, there are source notes. This volume is signed by the author (See pictures above).
