The re-released Custom of this period retained the look of the 1950s Custom, but the elements that shaped its sound were different from the '50s Custom. It adopted specifications inherited from the Sunburst Les Paul, such as a maple top and mahogany back body structure (in the 1950s it was one-piece mahogany), and dual humbucking pickups, which ultimately matched the trends of the rock movement at the time and defined the image of Customs thereafter. Even today, more than 50 years later, it remains a coveted model for rock guitarists.
