Description:
For your consideration is a charming, petite Leyden jar, originally part of a larger French electrostatic experimentation kit produced between 1890 and 1900.
This is a classic example of an early capacitor, designed to store a high-voltage static electric charge. The jar features a substantial amount of heavy gold foil in the interior, which remains in excellent, bright condition—a quality often lost in jars of this age.
Condition & Restoration Notes:
The instrument has undergone sympathetic conservation to ensure it displays beautifully.
* Interior: The original interior heavy gold foil is intact and in excellent condition.
* Exterior: The exterior Tin (Sn) foil is a replacement, applied to match the original function and aesthetic. Attached with period correct hide glue.
* Seal: The red sealing wax at the neck has been carefully refreshed to secure the brass electrode rod.
Measuring approximately 6 inches in height (including the brass ball terminal) and 2 inches in diameter with a weight of 4 oz, this "petite" jar is a wonderful shelf-sized example of Victorian physics apparatus. It would make a fine addition to any collection of early electrical technology or scientific demonstration instruments.
