This box allows you to surface mount the Unifi U7 IW (In Wall) access point. The U7-IW is designed to mount onto a box within your wall, but not all applications allow for this. Our uniquely designed enclosure gives the space needed for the bump out on the back of the AP plus the ethernet connection. You can either bring the cable through a relatively small hole in the wall, or through the side of the box.
Screws are included. This is a well-thought out design with thick sturdy plastic.
The box replicates the mounting hole layout of the original Unifi bracket, and the bracket screws to the top of the box. The box has preformed cable passthrough slots in 8 locations around the box (a drill and/or knife are needed to complete the hole when you decide which one you want to use). This allows the cable to enter through the sides of the box (bottom entry is preferred).
The shallow box will work in two scenarios:
1) There is just enough space in the shallow box for a standard crimped ethernet (RJ45) connector WITHOUT a boot and with an abrupt bend in the cable right after the connector, and/or,
2) A cable enters through a hole in the wall (5/8" hole suggested) and part of the boot on the ethernet cable is able to recede into that hole when the AP is mounted.
These are 3D printed parts which we make in-house (so you can expect some small aesthetic imperfections). PETG is a sturdy high temperature plastic with high impact resistance and good UV resistance compared to the more commonly used PLA plastic.
