Irene Saez deportiva SPORTS Made by Rotoplast in Venezuela
History
Rotoplast had the Barbie license in Venezuela and when it was withdrawn, Rotoplast produced several dolls modeled after Miss Venezuela beauty queens.
Irene Saez had a few dolls produced after her, and this RARE Sports one is one of them, wearing an outfit with the Venezuelan flag colors. Others are the Liqui Liqui Irene Saez, the graduation one, the Beauty Queen one, etc.
This particular unit has been poorly stored and her outfit will require some care. Something seems to have melted or gotten sticky with time. I purchased her used and don't have her history, but she comes in the original cardboard back of the then poorly constructed boxes (they are known for falling apart after a few years)
She was stored in an Scrabble box from a Venezuelan toy store, and, although still attached to the cardboard backing, shows some signs of wear from poor storage conditions. By no means pristine, but unique and extremely rare.
Irene Sáez is a Venezuelan former beauty queen, model, and politician who was crowned Miss Universe 1981 at age 19, famously studying civil engineering and playing sports during her reign, later transitioning to a significant political career as a mayor (Chacao), governor (Nueva Esparta), and presidential candidate, marking her as a notable figure in both pageantry and Venezuelan public life.
I was not able to find much information about this doll on the web, but El Mundo de Camilo, a Youtube channel, has an episode which includes this doll.
