Synopsis
The story follows the journey of a young orphan boy named Rémi.
- Early Life: Rémi is found abandoned as a baby in Paris and is lovingly raised by a foster mother, Madame Barberin, in a small French village.
- The Journey: At the age of eight, his foster father, Jérôme Barberin, returns home injured and heart-hearted. To cover his debts, he sells Rémi to Signor Vitalis, a mysterious itinerant street musician and performer.
- Life on the Road: Rémi leaves his adoptive mother and begins a difficult life traveling across France with Vitalis and his troupe of performing animals: the monkey Joli-Cœur, and the dogs Capi, Zerbino, and Dolce.
