This amp is in good working
condition. The serial number 5863 seems to date it to 1967. As you can see the
physical condition is what I would call “been around the block.” These were
called “the poor man’s Plexi” and for good reason, they are great sounding amps
for Guitar or Bass. They are exceptionally well built and durable amps, hand
wired point to point. The amp was gone through and had some caps replaced and
given a clean bill of health several years back and has been used very
sparingly since.
· "The 1967 Traynor Bass Master, model YBA-1, is a
40-watt, all-tube amplifier head known for its rugged build and tone often
compared to Fender Bassman and Marshall JTM45 designs. It was designed for both
guitar and bass.

· Noted Characteristics
· Tone: The YBA-1 is celebrated for a tone that blends
characteristics of classic Fender and Marshall amps. It offers significant
clean headroom and strong low-end response, making it a good platform for
pedals.
· "Poor Man's Plexi": Due to its similar circuit
design to the Marshall JTM45, it is often nicknamed the "Poor Man's
Plexi" and is a popular platform for modifications to achieve a British
high-gain sound.
· Durability: The amps are famously ruggedly built; the
designer, Pete Traynor, reportedly performed quality control by dropping them
off the roof.
· Channel Jumpering: Guitarists often "jumper" the
two channels together (using a patch cable between an output of one channel and
an input of the other) to achieve a gritty, overdriven tone at high
volumes. "
