Fontanini's "Nathan the Peddler" is a popular figurine often included in Nativity scenes and village collections. The figurine depicts a man wearing a hat and holding two baskets, one filled with fruit and the other with what appears to be garlic and other vegetables.
The figure was designed by artist Elio Simonelli for Fontanini, a company founded in Italy in 1908. Many of these figurines are marked on the bottom with the Fontanini name, the year it was made (such as 1987), and a small fountain or a spider mark. The pieces are made from a durable polymer or resin and are hand-painted. This one is in excellent condition.
