This is a stereo Gainlab Audio Empress valve EQ with less than 20 hrs use on the original valves. It was purchased new from KMR and racked as per the instructions with a 1U gap top and bottom to aid cooling.

The EQ is a Pultec-style EQ. If you are not familiar with the "Pultec trick" it is possible to simultaneously cut and boost the high and low frequencies. This creates a shallow cut in frequencies inside the high and low shelves that often clears out harsh and muddy frequencies. The EQ is unusual in Pultec terms because it also features a Mid band cut or boost. In addition it also features a control to add valve saturation which is particularly useful as it can be engaged without any EQ changes.

The Empress was purchased with a Gainlab Dictator (compressor) and the two units work exceptionally well together providing wonderful analog warmth and saturation from subtle to not-so-subtle! When I purchased these I had a friend lined up to perform the necessary recalibration for the future time when the valves need replacing but unfortunately ill health has stopped him working. A lack of a decent local tech has made me reluctant to put hours on the units so they have consequently had very little use.

The unit is boxed in its original Gainlab box with an additional shipping box outside. Whilst I would prefer collection I am open to the purchaser arranging insured courier collection at their risk. I will supply box dimensions and weight after purchase.
