Rare Mining Photo SALTESE MONTANA Ernest Roscean & R. L. Norton Oct. 5, 1908. The photo is 4.75" x 6.75" and the matte is 7" x 9". It is signed in the front "Yours Pearlie". It is written on the back " Oct. 5, 1908 Taken two miles east of Saltese Mont., on the bridge crossing the St. Regis River while in the employ of Fred R. Hupp. " Also written on the back " Ernest Roscean and R. L. Norton. " This area was popular for gold and silver prospecting and mining. I did some research and found that these gents were surveying the land and in 1908 got trapped by a storm only to be found many months later and sadly did not survive. This may be the last photo taken of them in 1908 before their passing.
