Offered here is a RARE painted metal piece of tin that was painted by a listed Rockport, Massachusetts artist. The tin bowl is 8 sided and flares up on the ends to stand 2 1/2” high. Overall it is 12 1/4” long by 7 1/2” wide and is signed in two places by the artist at his gallery when he was in Rockport. The painted bowl resembles an Oriental scene and was painted in gold against a green background. This piece was likely inspired by his employment in Michigan when he worked decorating furniture at furniture factories.

This was copied from an internet source: Peter Koster, born in the Netherlands, received his early education and training in fine art and period decoration from an excellent Dutch trade school. After serving various apprenticeships in Holland, he migrated to this country, making Grand Rapids, MI his home. He worked for fine furniture companies paint decorating furniture and trays and soon became well known. His talents were much in demand. In 1934 he moved to Boston with his career, and gradually became interested in Rockport. Peter Koster was a American artist working out of Rockport Massachusetts in the mid 1900's. His studio, the " Old Harbor Gallery " was located on Pleasant Street, Rockport Massachusetts.
