Rails Around Central Illinois is the first of two volumes which will look at the northern half of Illinois above the I-70 boundary of my Rails Around Southern Illinois book (2023).
Rails Around Central Illinois takes a tour of Illinois from East St Louis to Streator, Peoria/Galesburg (ATSF-side) to Champaign and Effingham. All photos are in color and from 1950 to 2000, with most being late 60s to early 80s. Locations include Springfield, Lincoln, Decatur, Danville, Kankakee, Bloomington, Edelstein Hill, Roodhouse, and everywhere in between.
Railroads included are the Baltimore & Ohio, Burlington Northern, Chessie System, Chicago & Eastern Illinois, Chicago & Illinois Midland, Chicago & North Western, Chicago, Burlington & Quincy, Conrail, Gulf, Mobile & Ohio, Illinois Central, Illinois Terminal, Louisville & Nashville (C&EI), Milwaukee Road, Missouri Pacific (C&EI), New York Central, Nickel Plate, Norfolk & Western, Penn Central, Pennsylvania Railroad, Peoria & Pekin Union, Rock Island, Toledo, Peoria & Western and the Wabash.
The hardcover book is 296 pages filled with over 800 all-color images from the railroads and geographic areas described above.
