Gibson Custom Shop was founded in 1993 to create the ultimate electric guitar and bass, leveraging its long-cultivated expertise, insatiable curiosity, and carefully selected materials. Today, the Custom Shop lineup, crafted using time-honored handcrafting techniques and a thorough knowledge of vintage instruments, is unrivaled in its exquisite craftsmanship, ensuring players' innermost inspiration will never be overwhelmed.
Tom Murphy, a founding member of the Gibson Custom Shop and project leader of the Historic Collection, has since developed a technique called "aging," which brings a vintage look and feel to new guitars. Tom's passion for vintage guitars and deep knowledge of the craft allow him to perfectly recreate the natural lacquer cracks and wear that come with playing a Gibson guitar. Tom Murphy and Gibson scientifically analyzed nitrocellulose lacquers from the 1950s and 1960s, which develop weather-checking cracks over time. Through extensive testing on various prototypes, they developed a lacquer process that replicates the natural weather-checking of vintage guitars. The Murphy Lab was conceived when Tom Murphy led the Gibson Custom Shop team to begin testing various body shapes, finishes, and aging levels using prototypes. As a result, the Murphy Lab was established within the Gibson Custom Shop to pursue unprecedented realism and attention to detail. This guitar is a custom-made, Japan-designed piece based on a 1957 Les Paul Custom Reissue with "Ultra Light Aged" finish, the least damaged of four aging levels. The one-piece mahogany body features a luxurious Polaris White finish, a departure from the standard Ebony Black. Equipped with three pickups and a Bigsby driver, it offers a striking look that will captivate guitar enthusiasts. The Ultra Light Aged finish naturally reveals minimal aging, as if the guitar had been carefully stored in its case for years, with gentle weathering and dents. The fingerboard edge is rolled for superior grip, further enhancing the guitar's appeal. The basic specifications are the latest Historic Spec. It continues to feature unpotted Custombucker Alnico III pickups, an updated assembly, and True Historic parts. The '57 Les Paul Custom uses a one-piece solid mahogany body instead of maple. The combination with the ebony fingerboard produces a rich, yet edgy, high-quality humbucking sound.
In terms of the condition of this guitar, due to the aging process, it is difficult to distinguish in some areas, but there are some minor scratches that look new and some noticeable paint peeling on the back of the body. The frets are still about 80% tall, and there are no problems with playability, including the condition of the neck and the electrical system, so this is a guitar that you can enjoy for many years to come. With its impressive appearance and high-quality tone, this guitar is truly appealing, so don't miss out on this opportunity! Made in 2024
