1960 Bravo Smokes Inc. Factory Original Photo's Workers Machinery Lettuce TX Co.


In 1959, chemist and entrepreneur Puzant Torigian   created / pat. a chemical makeup to be an alternative to nicotine. In his hometown of Hereford, Texas, in 1965, they introduced Bravo Smokes (the lettuce cigarette Lactuca sativus (or lettuce). When it's cured, the alternative burned like tobacco but has no nicotine & and is believed to be nontoxic when compared to tobacco.)(The dates on the photos date to the beginning years of production). This ultimately didn't catch on, and the co. Ended production in the early 70s. Short production run makes these photos hard to come by, and although a short part, it plays a part in the history within America's tobacco industry.
