Here is a 1840 first edition copy of the Travel to the City of the Caliphs - Volume 1.

The book has suffered moisture damage and physical wear but the oages are well attached as well as the foldout map.

-Wellsted (James Raymond) Travels in the City of the Caliphs Wellsted (1805-42), surveyor and traveller, was appointed second lieutenant of the East India Company's ship Palinurus in 1830, then engaged, under Captain Moresby, in making a detailed survey of the Gulf of Akaba and the northern part of the Red Sea. In January 1834, under the command of Captain Haines, he crossed over to Socotra. The results of his journey were communicated to the Royal Geographical Society as Memoir on the Island of Socotra (Journal of the Royal Geographical Society, v.129). He continued his exploration of Arabia until 1837 arriving at Muscat in an acute state of fever and in a fit of delirium he discharged both barrels of his gun into his mouth, leaving two ghastly wounds in the upper jaw. He retired from the service in 1839, and dragged on a few years in shattered health and with impaired mental powers.

Note to Buyers
All books in my inventory receive a basic dry clean (light wipe-down for gunk and dirt removal). I make it a point to preserve the life and story of each book by keeping any items found with them - such as bookmarks, pressed flowers, newspaper clippings, or other unique inserts - exactly as they were when I acquired them.

If you would prefer these items to be removed before shipping, please contact me after purchase and I will gladly accommodate your request.
