Therefore, an electrolytic capacitor that has been left on hold for a long time needs an aging (activation) process before it can be used normally.
The specific method is to increase the working voltage at both ends of the electrolytic capacitor step by step until the rated voltage.
If the working voltage of the electrolytic capacitor is 450V, then the following steps can be performed:
First the capacitor is subjected to a voltage of 50V for 10 to 15 minutes
Then, after every 4 to 5 minutes, the voltage is increased by 20V, and the working voltage is gradually increased. To the rated voltage.
For safety reasons, it is generally required to connect a 100K5W current limiting resistor in series to prevent the electrolytic short circuit from damaging the power supply.
The voltage across the 100K resistor can also be used to detect the electrolytic leakage current. If conditions permit, it is also possible to use an adjustable high voltage power supply with a 10mA constant current source for aging.
Normally, the intact electrolytic capacitor has a leakage current of 0.025~0.05mA/microfarad under rated voltage and normal temperature.
