* Special Note:  Corgi Toys, a prominent line of die-cast models, was founded in 1956 by the British Mettoy company, taking its name from the Welsh breed of dog. Initially, the toys were recognized for their innovative features, such as plastic glazing for authentic windows, which led to the slogan "the ones with windows". Corgi quickly gained international popularity and the Queen's Award for Export. After the original Mettoy company's financial difficulties in the mid-1980s, the brand went through several ownership changes, including time with Mattel and eventually becoming part of Hornby in 2008.
