The Red Jacket Pump Co. traces its history to two men in Davenport named Chandler & Blodgett. They had formed a partnership selling pumps in what would become the Davenport Pump Co. in 1875. When they ran into financial difficulties, H. D. Lafferty, a partner in the Toledo (Ohio) Pump Company proposed a consolidation between the two that became Red Jacket Manufacturing Co. in 1887
