Are you ready to put a Surgical Edge on your tools?  Surgi-Sharp leads the way!  The SS-5 comes with a 1" x 42" leather belt designed to mount on your 1x42 belt sander (belt sander not included).  This belt is designed to de-burr and polish your sharpened edges beyond the standard finish.  Even if you finish your edges with a 1000 or even a 2000 grit belt, you'll STILL benefit greatly in de-burring and polishing with the Wheatland Surgi-Sharp SS-5 leather belt! 

Each package comes with ONE 1x42 leather belt.  If you're short on time, simply use the rough side of the belt for final de-burr and polishing.  BUT, if you have a little more time and want an even MORE polished edge, this belt is ALSO reversible!!  Use the rough side of the belt for de-burring, then flip it over to the smooth side for final polish!  You can even use fine polishing compound on the rough side and SUPER-FINE compound on the smooth side to improve your polishing work further!

I've operated a sporting goods business for over 20 years now, and have sharpened COUNTLESS knives, blades and tools for my customers.  I used this exact system exclusively for well over a decade and these leather "stropping" belts are THE way to finish out any sharpening job!  I have since upgraded to a Tormek T-8 for my commercial sharpening, but I still have my trusty belt sander by my workbench for specialty projects (such as deep-bellied recurve blades that the Tormek struggles with).  The leather belts are long-lasting and VERY affordable!

The Surgi-Sharp honing process is much like that of a barber’s strop except that a motor (your 1x42 belt sander) provides the power, amplifying the stropping effect by thousands of times.  Our leather honing equipment operates on the common tools which are available in most shops.

Please remember to ALWAYS strop AWAY from the cutting edge -- stropping TOWARD the edge will embed your newly sharpened blade in the leather and instantly destroy your belt.  Be sure you are familiar with the direction of rotation of your tool so you know how to place your blade against the leather to achieve the results you want.  Angle the BEVEL of your sharpened edge so you're polishing the BEVEL's flat -- any steeper than that, and you'll be rolling your edge over, destroying the cutting ability of that edge.  The idea is to de-burr and polish the flat of the bevel -- and ONLY the flat of the bevel.
