Size: Maximum width of tray 28.5 cm. Jug to spout 17 cm, beakers 9.5 cm tall.

Condition:  Overall very good condition but one beaker has two hairline cracks coming from the rim - one is 3 cm and the other 5 cm..  These have been consolidated (with Paraloid B72 glue) and the cups could be used but I would not recommended hot liquids or the dishwasher for any of it.  No other chips cracks or restoration.  There is minor wear to some of the gilding on the tray only.

This is a charming set which I would imagine to be for orangeade on account of the colour - Brownhills made this pattern in several different colourways.  The set is a cream coloured earthenware, cast in a mould and hand painted before firing under a clear glaze, with a further addition of gilt fired again.
There is a PODR mark on the base of all pieces which dates the design to July 1882.  There is also a painted mark 4486 and a couple of impressed marks.
The Japanese style decoration places it firmly within the Aesthetic Period when "Japonisme" was the rage throughout Europe.

A great piece of Victoriana.  I have a matching biscuit barrel also available.
