Synopsis:

Despite their similar outward appearance, humans and sorcerers are two distinct species. Sorcerers were created by Chidaruma in his realm, while humans evolved naturally in a separate world. Sorcerers possess the ability to wield magic through a unique circulatory system that disperses black smoke, granting them various powers. The rarity and strength of these powers are highly valued, often influencing social status. As a result, sorcerers frequently form binding partnerships, leading to violent competition for the most coveted abilities. In contrast, humans are forced to live in the slums of Hole, constantly subjected to unprovoked sorcerer violence and overwhelming magical pollution. Sorcerers, on the other hand, are free to live and travel between realms using conjured doorways.

Caiman, a man with a reptilian head and no memory of his past, is determined to find the sorcerer who cursed him. With the help of his friend Nikaido, a chef who runs a restaurant called The Hungry Bug, Caiman roams Hole in search of the sorcerer responsible, hoping to kill them and reverse the curse. His only lead is the full-size man living inside his throat: when a sorcerer's head is placed in Caiman's mouth, the man's head will slide up his throat, revealing whether they are the one who caused the curse. To get closer to his goal, Caiman takes a job at a community hospital for victims of magic attacks, where he works alongside Drs. Vaux and Kasukabe in an effort to reach the sorcerer's world and uncover the truth about his past.

Meanwhile, the rumors of a lizard-man killing sorcerers—one with cross tattoos and magical resistance—catch the attention of En, the de facto ruler of the sorcerers. En believes Caiman is connected to the Cross-Eyes Gang, a group that oppressed humans and lower-class sorcerers, and whose leader nearly destroyed En's crime family before disappearing. In response, En sends his enforcers, Shin and Noi, along with two low-ranking sorcerers: Fujita, who seeks revenge for the death of his partner at Caiman's hands, and Ebisu, who suffers from amnesia after Caiman accidentally tore her face off.
