Dr. Goldstein was a deaf education pioneer, who founded the Central Institute for the Deaf in 1914.  He did extensive study of ear, nose, and throat medicine, and pioneered an "oral" approach to educating the deaf in the U.S.  Dr. Goldstein was a close friend of Helen Keller, who was the featured guest at a 1939 fundraiser to celebrate the institute's 25th anniversary.
