Guaranteed to be as described and satisfaction guaranteed, this is a very nice Rolex watch. It is the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Precision grade stainless steel mens sized PRE EXPLORER watch with it's original silver dial and a nicely patinaed Norwegian Reindeer skin strap. This reference number 6098 watch is called the Pre Explorer because it is the model that the first successful Expedition to summit on mount Everest was issued. After their success this model got the name EXPLORER added to the dial to commemorate this achievement. This beautiful watch has a classic Rolex cal. A296 movement which has just been thoroughly serviced (A $500 value alone). This watch is a very nice vintage watch, is beautiful, AND HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE.  It has been appreciating in value for half a century and will only continue. WHY BUY NEW? Model number 6098 serial number: 727xxx (c. 1953, full serial number will be disclosed to the buyer). Based on the serial number this watch was probably in the same batch that the waches that went to Everest were made in. This Rolex is BEAUTIFUL. Last week the Perpetual winding Rolex signed cal A296 movement with sweeping seconds hand was fully serviced, a $500 value. It is running as it should. (See timing report in photos). At that time the watch case was only ultrasonically cleaned. It has never been over polished. The case measures 36 mm wide excluding the crown (it's an average sized men's watch for the time period, it is mid sized by today's standards and looks great on modern ladies also). The winding crown is the original SUPER OYSTER push/pull non-screw down crown with the Rolex logo. These crowns are seriously rare and worth $500+ alone ere on ebay. The crown works as it should, but should not be assumed to be water tight due to it's age. The case back shows no wear, pitting or improper tool use. There is one scratch on the case back that I would typically polish off, but since this is a 6098 pre explorer I won't. The band is a vintage used Reindeer skin band which suits the watch well. I usually swap used leather bands for new ones before listing a watch, but this one just looks right on the watch. If you would like a new leather band instead of this one I would be happly to swap it free of charge before shipping. The original dial (never refinished) is very nicely and evenly aged with a beautiful light patina. The hands are also original to this watch and the luminous paint has fallen out of them.
