Antique German Bohemian Blown Glass Stone Cut Beer Stein Silver Lid Danish Text Hamburg Mark c.1860s

: This beautiful and impressive beer stein was made hand-blown of crystal glass and elaborately cut to create vertical facets for the perfect optical effect. The glass steins of this kind came mostly from Bohemia - now the Western part of the Czech Republic, before - a part of the German Holy Roman Empire and at that time part of the Austrian Empire.

Apart from the facets, the stein also has a nicely stone-cut medallion on the front with the engraved name "Viggo Voight" - the original owner of the stein.

It has a beautiful very ornate solid silver lid with the hallmarks that belonged to Friedrich Peters, a silversmith in Hamburg, Germany who was in business from 1841 to 1877. The lid is gilt on the inside. It is elaborately engraved with a presentation inscription:

"Errindring on 28 Aars Tjeneste af M.Lazarus" - (In memory of 28 years of service by M.Lazarus)

The engravings on the lid are in Danish. Part of the modern Hambug - a suburb of Hamburg-Altona - was under the Danish monarchy rule until 1864. It is unclear what is the connection between M.Lazarus and Viggo Voigt is - maybe "M.Lazarus" was a company Viggo worked for.

A very interesting antique beer-drinking vessel
combining a Bohemian glass, German silver smithing and Danish history. Viggo is a common Danish name and Voigt is a surname that was Danish and German as well.

The stein is in excellent condition. There are no chips or lines, the lid is in perfect condition as well.

The stein is 6.25" to the top of the thumblift, 0.5L capacity.
