A classical German glass beer stein from the Biedermeier period of the late 1820s - early 1830s. The steins made before 1850 are considered the "Early" category - a highly collectible but of course rare.
Blown crystal glass with applied thick handle scrolled. Pontil mark on the bottom. The stein was decorated with the so-called "Cold paint" - the decorations were made with lacquer or oil paint that was not fired. It was a less expensive technique used in the short period of early 1800s but it was abandoned since the paint was wearing out too quickly.
Nice pewter lid with an acorn-shaped thumblift and large closed type five-ring hinge - very typical for this period.
A true antique art object.
Excellent flawless condition except for the wear of the paint - no chips, cracks or repairs.
This is a nice beer-drinking vessel about 200 years old! I guarantee my dating. It is 7.5" tall to the top of the thumb lift and has a 0.5 L capacity.
