The LSM-1/LSM(R) class was built in two basic types, and several variants landing ship class of the US Navy . With basic type LSM (Landing Ship Medium) were medium dropships for troops and vehicles. The ships of basic type LSM(R) (Landing Ship Medium (Rocket)) were landing support ships with rocket launchers and partly with artillery were equipped for the bombardment of the invasion beaches.
