The wood will require a really good rinse through before it can be placed in the aquarium, preferably soaking in a separate container. If the wood does float, it may need weighing down to ensure it soaks. Use par boiled water to assist in speeding up the process by expanding the wood fibres to expel the air in the wood until it becomes waterlogged.
In extreme cases, you may need to weigh the wood down, but unlikely with this type
The wood will release tannins into your aquarium water which is beneficial to many tropical freshwater species and will all soften the pH of your water.
ALWAYS PRE SOAK WOOD BEFORE ADDING IT TO AN AQUARIUM.
