One of our favorite trips on our travels in Oaxaca is to the village of San Pedro Cajonos! Situated high in the mountains three hours from Oaxaca City, this is one of the most idyllic settings that one may ever find! Perched at the top of the mountains, with sweeping views of the surrounding canyons and distant pueblos, San Pedro Cajonos kisses the clouds and shines in its art forms. One of the most famous of San Pedro Cajonos artists, is the Blas Family of wood carvers. Their style is so unique and can be identified readily upon sight. Bright colors, and fine painting are their hallmarks. I absolutely love the Blas Family wood carvings!
I love how unique this eagle grasping a snake is! The eagle is majestic, with a cool face and beak, spectacular wings, and talons that are gripping onto a fantastic colorful snake. The design really calls attention to itself, and I love the creativity that went into this piece. The wings and the snake are removable for safe shipping, and the piece is signed by the artist.
