Genealogy
Albert Elmstedt (born Albert Karl Jensen, 1895-1976) was a Danish painter. He was born on June 15, 1895, in Hjallese Mark near Dalum and passed away on March 22, 1976, in Odense, where he was buried at Dalum Cemetery. He changed his last name from Jensen to Elmstedt on April 17, 1929. His parents were mason Peder Jensen and Johanna Augusta Olsdatter Elmstedt. On August 24, 1926, he married Marie Nielsen (1900-1992), daughter of farmer Niels Nielsen and Else Marie.

Biography
Albert Elmstedt focused on depicting visual reality with expressive undertones. In his later years, he experimented with abstract geometric forms, evident in works like the stained glass window for the Tønder High School. After a cautious start, his paintings gained strength and weight during the 1940s, showing a profound expressiveness. Some of his best works, such as In the Forest, are reminiscent of artist Erik Hoppe. Elmstedt also made a significant impact as a teacher, mentoring notable artists like Otto Deleuran, Aksel Nielsen, Louis Michael, and Rasmus Nellemann.
