OPUS Complete Edition Comic by Satoshi Kon (2019) 372 Pages Japanese Manga

Description

This listing features the complete edition of OPUS, a masterpiece by the late genius animator and manga artist, Satoshi Kon. Originally serialized between 1995 and 1996 in the magazine Comic Guys, this manga explores the boundary between reality and fiction—an essential theme that became central to Satoshi Kon's later films.

The serialization was left incomplete due to the magazine's discontinuation, but in 2010, after Kon's untimely passing, the "lost final chapter" manuscript was discovered. This edition compiles the entire series, including the previously missing conclusion, into one volume. It also includes a new interview with producer Masao Maruyama, who collaborated on all of Satoshi Kon's works, making this an essential collector's item for fans.

Story Overview
The manga follows Riku Nagai, a struggling artist working on his serialized manga Resonance. As the story reaches its climax, Riku decides to end it with the death of its protagonist, Lin. However, Lin emerges from the pages and steals the final manuscript, pulling Riku into the fictional world he created. As Riku battles the mysterious psychic "The Mask" alongside the heroine Satoko, he is forced to confront the consequences of his own storytelling. The lines between the real and fictional worlds blur, leading Riku to question: "Can an author truly be a god within their story?"
