Biography:
Eberhard Schlotter (1921–2014) was a prominent German painter and graphic artist known for his portraits and realistic style. A student of the Munich Academy of Visual Arts, Schlotter's career spanned decades, earning him acclaim for his innovative techniques in etching and his ability to capture the essence of his subjects. His "soft etching" method, which allowed seamless transitions between gray tones, became a hallmark of his graphic works. Schlotter collaborated with numerous cultural icons, including Yehudi Menuhin, a collaboration evident in this work.

In addition to his artistic contributions, Schlotter held professorships at esteemed institutions, including Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. His works are part of collections worldwide and remain celebrated for their depth, subtlety, and emotional resonance.
