The Kushans, nomadic Yuezhi from Central Asia, forged a diverse empire from Uzbekistan to northwest India. They nurtured and advanced the Greco-Buddhist traditions in this area. Between around 50 CE and 250 CE, under Kushan patronage, Buddhism spread to China and beyond through the Silk Road. Kushan art and coins show a beautiful blend of Greek, Buddhist, and Hindu influences, marking significant cultural achievements of the time, including the notable human depictions of the Buddha and Bodhisattva.
