7/ Mahmud II, Ottoman Empire, 20 para - By 1516, Gaza became part of the Ottoman Empire, which transformed the small town into a more vibrant city.
8/ Mandatory Palestine, 2 mils - After World War I, Great Britain took control of Gaza as part of the Mandate of Palestine, ending its rule in 1948.
