Oil on board with complex layering and texturing of the paint giving depth and character.

Born in Dublin 1938 but has lived in the North of Ireland since 1939. Jack graduated from Queens University Belfast in 1959 in French, Spanish and Philosophy, followed by Teacher Training at Stranmillis College 1960/61.

Jack taught English at Ashfield Boys Secondary School Belfast from 1961 to 1990 after which devotee all his time to paonting full time.

He is self-taught as a painter and also writes poetry.

Since 1960 he has held over thirty five solo exhibitions and has contributed to numerous Group and Thematic Exhibitions in Ireland, the U.K., America, Canada, Bosnia, Belgium, Germany, Mexico and Norway.

Of a similar piece, Pakenham wrote;

"The painting was one of a series done in 1965 when I turned my attention to landscape, trying to convey the texture, stratification and erosion of an area I had [previously] lived in called the Isle of Purbeck, near Swanage, Dorset. I then turned my attention to my local area mainly the Mournes and the Antrim coast [This] is one of the Mourne ones exhibited first in the Bell Gallery, Alfred Street."
