Substantial sculptural highly decorative early piece by incredibly talented British ceramicist Kate Malone.

Large polychrome glazed earthenware jug with applied marine fauna. Hand paint signed and dated 1990 underside.

From the 1990 Fruits of the Sea II series as exhibited at The Orangery, Holland Park, London + solo exhibition Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Wales.

In the late 1980s/early 1990s Malone's ceramics were based on the many varied aspects of marine life. This piece is bursting with fish, squid, lobsters and starfish in semi and full relief amongst splashing waves along with a sole crab hiding in the interior.

The multicoloured work was formed with intricate hand modelling and has had multiple glaze firing. When the vessel reached the top temperature, the heat is held so that the glazes melt and move over the form which can be seen in this piece.

In excellent condition, no chips or cracks, repairs etc. Light glaze cracklure in places. Also please refer to listing images as they make up a large part of the description.
