Description: Ernest Stuart (British, Act. C.1889-1915), "Clearing After A Storm", Watercolour On Paper/Card, 11.6" by 34.4" Inches (29.5 by 87.5 Cm), Signed Lower Left "Ernest Stuart", Unglazed Gilt Frame 18.7" by 41.7" Inches (47.5 by 106 Cm), With Label Verso From Mawson, Swan & Morgan, Newcastle on Tyne.
For sale is an original early 20th-century antique watercolour painting on paper/card titled "Clearing After a Storm", painted by listed British artist Ernest Stuart (act. c.1889-1915). The painting captures the dramatic aftermath of a storm at sea, with waves crashing against rocky outcrops under a clearing sky. Stuart's mastery in depicting the movement of water and the light reflecting off the turbulent waves is evident in this finely detailed composition.
The watercolour is signed lower left by the artist, "Ernest Stuart". The image measures 11.6" by 34.4" inches and is housed in a decorative unglazed gilt gesso frame, which measures 18.7" by 41.7" inches. The frame features an inscribed lower slip with the title "Clearing After a Storm" and the artist's name, "Ernest Stuart". There is a label on the verso from Mawson, Swan & Morgan, Newcastle on Tyne, indicating the painting's provenance from a reputable art dealer and framer.
This is an authentic and genuine watercolour by Ernest Stuart. There is a condition report provided below. The painting will be packed safely and shipped within a custom-made plywood box.

Artist
Biography: Ernest Stuart was a British artist active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, primarily known for his maritime watercolours. His works are particularly noted for their accurate and vivid depictions of breaking waves and seascapes. Stuart exhibited his works between 1889 and 1915, including at prestigious institutions such as the Royal Academy, the Royal Institute, the Royal Society of British Artists, and the Walker Gallery in Liverpool.
His paintings often capture the dynamic and powerful nature of the sea, and he became well-regarded for his ability to convey the movement and energy of the ocean. Although not much more is widely documented about his personal life, his legacy lives on through his artwork, which continues to be appreciated by collectors and art enthusiasts.
This particular painting, titled "Clearing after a Storm," is a fine example of his work, showcasing his skill in rendering the sea's tumultuous beauty after a storm.
Condition: The painting is in fair condition on lightly age-toned paper with some light foxing, mostly in the upper left corner. There are no obvious marks or damage to the artwork. The frame is age-tarnished with some losses and cracks to the decoration, and there are some small depressions to the inner slip. Please note that the frame has lost its glass, and being a watercolour, it will need re-glazing as soon as possible after purchase.

describe all items with care not to
mislead you, the buyer. All our

quality images follow the link in the
description to the gallery album.
- Authenticity When
we list an artwork as being "by" a
particular artist, without a doubt we
guarantee it to be an original artwork
by the artist as stated. When we sell
artwork described as an "oil
painting", "watercolour" or a "print",
this is quite simply what it really
is. When we list artwork as by a
"follower" or "school" or "manner" of
an artist, or from a specific period
or time eg. "19th century". Based on
the available information, knowledge
and research, that is what we believe
the artwork to be. If we are not sure
about the artist, medium, or age, we
will clearly say so and tell you why.
Where needed to further our knowledge,
artwork will be independently verified
to be certain it is as described
before being offered. Quite simply we
have one rule, we do not sell recent
fakes or forgeries. If any artwork
could not be sold through a reputable
Auction House, then we will not act
fraudulently or underhandedly by
offering it for sale here through
Art2Own. If after a purchase you find
there is doubt about our description
of your artwork, we will offer a full
no quibble refund.

by the Courier to remain in situ

instance, we can only authorise
the return and pay a refund to you
when the Courier investigation has
completed.
