Tear-Drop Bouquets and Other
Lays is a collection of inspiring poetry with a predominantly religious theme. Mrs. Turner brings to the reader the ability to produce original and enlightening religious poetry without seeming doctrinaire. The freshness and originality of her style is a pleasure to behold and is certainly a direct product of the religious inspiration received during a lifelong membership in the Mormon Church. The volume also includes an unusual piece entitled "How King Drew Loved Madame Suer which tells of a mythical love affair between two wild horses of the plains.
Although the saga of King Drew is a finely woven bit of poetic adventure, Mrs. Turner finds her true strength in a religious poetry which is ever optimistic, ever desirous of helping the reader take that extra step, give that extra effort which will lead to true devotion, satisfaction and sal-
vation, To pick up thy bed and walk
Is not only ancient talk, But he that struggles in pain May gain true health again. Thus in a simple and heartwarming style the poetess of Ogden, Utah brings us inspiration, encouragement and HOPE. Hope to continue the strug-gle. Hope to seek a better day, a bright tomorrow. Hope for true salvation and inner religion.
How marvelous that man may
be
Ruler of his destiny:
He can achieve, surmount and climb
To rule a throne throughout all time.
Verna Stuart Turner, a life-long resident of Ogden, Utah, is a graduate of Weber Academy, Class of "17." She also attended the University of Utah, and majored in Kinder-garten. She is married to postal employee William Kinder Turner: they have two children, and ten grandchildren.
Having written poetry for many years, while she was acting housewife, mother, and church worker, her writing was a source of personal delight, and inspiration. She is now anxious to share her creations with those who find joy in reading, and desire to grow in spirituality. She hopes to have more of her manuscripts published, especially the last one, "For The Young In Heart."
