I believe this pair of gold & carved cameo two-part drop earrings are handmade and date to the mid-1800's. All parts test 18k gold. The four cameos are all slightly different, probably hand-carved. All cameos feature carved bouquets of cotton bolls in pedestal vases with lyre harp designs. A pair of some unknown weapons or implements is crossed behind the back of the vase in the larger cameos.
Inner bright gold frames have decorative notches down the long sides. Outer frames are bright gold enhanced with sculpted & textured design of cotton bolls, leaves and vines, which make the gold darker. One smaller cameo is upside down - perhaps it fell out and was reinserted wrong. Earrings close in back with simple hook & loop closure. Total length of earrings is about 1.75". Smaller cameos measure 9.3 mm. x 11 mm. + outer decorative gold frame, and larger cameos measure 13.9 mm. x 19.9 mm. + outer frame.
