The tone pot (Vari-Tone) is center-clicked, and the tone is fully open at the center position (usually the 10 position of the pot). Turning the pot to the left from the center position will narrow the tone. Turning it to the right from the center position produces a clearer, sharper sound with the mid component cut off by a special circuit configuration.
