  • Leonotis nepetaefolia.
  • Attract hummingbirds with this otherworldly plant.
  • A fast-growing tropical annual, Klip Dagga has a playfully strange, Seussian sort of beauty–and this playfulness is magnified by the swooping, darting hummingbirds that come to drink its nectar.
  • Klip Dagga is very adaptable: It thrives in a range of soils and conditions–even in containers–and reaches up to 10 feet tall!
  • Klip Dagga’s fuzzy, orange, tubular flowers emerge from round masses of pincushion-like bracts that appear intermittently along its ridged, green stems. All parts of this plant have been used in traditional medicines for the treatment of various ailments.
  • Hummingbirds and butterflies love its nectar-rich, fuzzy flower tubules that leap from sharp, spiky green bracts. Flowers starting late summer. The nectar has a sweet grapefruit taste, and many parts of this bitter plant have been used in traditional medicines.
  • Moderately drought tolerant, prefers well-drained soils. If you like the unusual and unruly, this orange monster is for you!
  • A fast-growing tropical annual, Klip Dagga has a playfully strange, Seussian sort of beauty–and this playfulness is magnified by the swooping, darting hummingbirds that come to drink its nectar.
  • Klip Dagga is very easy to grow and absolutely stunning in late summer waving in the breeze.
  • Plants grow 8-12' tall and may require staking late in the season and in high wind areas.
  • Hummingbirds have turf wars over this plant. Regardless of their motivation, we highly recommend Klip Dagga for planting where you can watch the hummingbirds go wild for this plant.
  • The pincushion flower bracts are difficult to handle but fun to look at and are interesting in dried flower arrangements.
  • Related to Lion’s Tail/Wild Dagga, but easier to grow and more productive. May self-sow. Native to Southern Africa where it is called Cordao.
