Snake flies are very versatile lures for fly fishing for larger trout, whether fished at speed or using a slower retrieve. Snake flies are large fly patterns made from a long length of rabbit zonker strip and are very similar to zonker fly patterns but the zonker has a long tail and a hook at the top of the fly, a Snake fly has a long tail with the hook in the tail although some Snakes may have an additional hook at the top.  As rabbit is a very mobile material when wet it gives a unique shape and movement in the water, the fur puffs up and pulsates when pulled, a sudden pause during the retrieve can entice a feeding trout to suddenly take the fly. When fishing lures you often get trout nipping at the tail of the fly and the hook is in the tail of the snake you are more likely to result in hooked fish.

These flies are tied in the popular unweighted Cats Whisker pattern in white & green with a hook in the tail, they are approximately 50mm from eye to tail.
