J.H.Rorhman (1820-1874) was a tinsmith from Philadelphia, PA. His business was located as the stamped area states, "606 Cherry St. in Philadelphia." The company was well known and produced Tin canisters and was under contract during the Civil War to produce Tin, 8-ring Bullseye Drinking Canteens. He also held at least one patent for the improvement of Tin Canisters.
This was, most likely, a Tea Canister. Most of the ones I have seen in original paint (Red) have a gold lithograph of leaves and scrolls.
This Canister is Rust Free and Sound. The lid is sound and closes. There are no holes. The inside is just Tin.There was little decoration remaining on this one so I sanded and primed it.
It is Hand-painted (no stencils) with an eye to an Antique-style Eagle. The colors are Red, Green, Black, and Mustard.
There are numerous thin layers to seal the paint.
