This is a Tudor Shoe for Men

This style of shoe is suitable for Tudor costume for men, for the periods Henry VII and Henry VIII.

They are the most common shoe style on archaeological record for the period. They are suitable for a persona representing someone who is well off, but still has to work for a living such as tradesmen, merchants and soldiers.

These shoes are faithful historical replicas, NOT phantasy or LARP style shoes, although you can wear them to such events of course.

These shoes are made in historically authentic turn-shoe construction. They are sewn inside out, then soaked in water, turned the right way round, put back on the last and dried out slowly for several days. Although the highest quality shoes of this period were by now made in welted construction with two sole layers and a stacked heel, the shoes of everyday people continued to be made with a single sole layer in medieval turnshoe construction like the ones I have for sale here.

I only use best British vegetable tanned shoulders for the soles and finest French calf-skins for the uppers. They have a 3.5mm (1/7in) thick sole just like the finds in the museums that I studied.

However, they are machine-sewn to keep them affordable. But once they are on your feet all the stitching is hidden inside and so they look 100% authentic. I sell a lot of these to even the most picky of re-enactment societies.

Optional additional heels glued on:
This is an optional add-on service for these shoes which increases the life expectancy of your historic shoes because the heels always wear out first. Such heel patches were sewn on with invisible blind stitch from the 10th Century onwards, and looked exactly like these heels which are invisibly glued on to keep them affordable.
If you wish to add these heels to your order, please
look for them in "sellers other items".

Delivery times:

During busy periods I may carry some ready-made stock in adult size 3 -13, available for immediate shipment.

You are welcome to check with me if your size happens to be in stock before doing buy-it-now.

But strictly speaking the auction is for a pair especially made for you. In order to have them made for you allow 8 working days for the
manufacture and despatch of your shoes if you live in the UK and 15 working days if you live anywhere else.

On winning the auction:

Tell me if you would like the shoes in medium brown, with approx. 2 weeks wait for shipping and manufacture, or immediate shipping of shoes which I may already have in stock (no guarantee of that - please check with me before bidding), but which may be a lighter or darker shade of brown.

Returns:

I only accept the return of shoes that are unmarked, unworn and unmodified. If you wish to return shoes for an exchange by a different size or a refund you must do so within 14 days of receipt.

About Us:

I am a historical shoe-maker and craft-demonstrator, based in Britain. I do this full time and all my shoe-replicas are based on archaeological evidence. Amongst my customers are Leeds Royal Armouries, The Ashmolean and The Victoria and Albert Museum, who use my shoes to dress historically costumed staff, dummies and to stock handling boxes for educational kits. I also work for countless theatres and film companies.
