Robust Colorful Tone!

One of musics best kept secrets is a little known clarinet workshop that produced some of the best clarinets ever made in America.
The Penzel-Mueller company was established in Long Island City, NY in 1899. The precursor was a company called G. Penzel which started around 1881. Gustav Ludwig "Louis" Penzel 1855-1920 joined fellow German clarinet maker from Vogtland/Saxony, Edward Georg Muller 1869-1956 in 1899 and they began making several model clarinets both Albert system and Boehm system until the 1950's.
The clarinet offered is their Brilliante Model which was their top of the line professional clarinet. Their aim was to compete with the then and now most famous makers Buffet and Selmer. The Brilliante Model has everything you could ever want in a pro instrument but with the distinct German flair of a robust deep richness and a wide dynamic range. The tone of these clarinets was preferred mostly by jazz clarinettists although it was hailed just as often by classical players. Some of the famous players who used the Penzel-Mueller clarinet were Woody Herman, Jimmy Dorsey, Albert Burbank, Louis Cottrell, George Lewis, Sidney Arodin and Willie Humphrey.
These clarinets play with a heavier tone than the French made clarinets lending the ability to bend the pitch and create effects such as multiphonics.
This instrument comes to us in excellent mechanical condition. Made from tight grained grenadilla wood with silver plated keys. No evidence of any previous cracks or bad repairs. We just restored this gorgeous clarinet with all new pads and corks. 
The barrel measures 66 mm. and has impeccable tuning at A=440.
